It is Just Better Together has become a sort of motto for Small Groups at First Presbyterian Church of Mount Vernon because we have proven that fact to each other over the year. The value of Life Groups is that they help us to move forward on our spiritual journey as we study God’s Word, pray and serve together. They provide a great place to make friends and they allow us to receive and give care to one another as we share life’s joys and challenges with one another
We had the extraordinary experience of sharing that value with over ninety people who participated in the 40 Days of Purpose Small Group Study in October and November of 2008. We had fifteen Host Families who guided their groups of 6-12 members through the six weeks of that study. The response was wonderful.
We have had three or four small groups meeting in this church for several years but not under a specific ministry. Since the 40 Days experience, more members are entering into the Life Group program. Some groups are continuing with the early groups and an even larger number of members have chosen to continue with the folks they met with in their 40 Days groups.
As of February of 2009, there are nine groups reorganized to study material each has chosen for their own group. The number of participating members now stands at 75. This is a blessing to our congregation for which we are most grateful.
